As the moon shines in her fullness, there's a gentle invitation in the air—to pause, breathe, and turn inward. In moments like these, we are reminded of the sacred presence of the Guru—not in the modern, overused sense of the word, but in its truest, most powerful meaning.
In Sanskrit, guru translates to remover of darkness or ignorance. A guru is not simply an expert or someone good at something. A true guru illuminates (shines the light on the shadow), reveals, and guides—either through their presence in our lives or through the wisdom that stirs within us.
This reflection is an invitation to explore the two expressions of the guru: the outer and the inner.
The Outer Guru
External teachers can come in many forms. They might be your parents, a school teacher, a mentor, or even someone whose words shifted something in you during a single conversation. Perhaps it was a facilitator in a course, a spiritual guide, or someone who held space for your transformation at a pivotal time in your life. These individuals plant seeds of awakening and expansion, offering tools and insights that help us along our path.
The Inner Guru
But then there is the inner teacher—the quiet wisdom that resides within. This is your intuition, your inner knowing, your soul’s compass. It speaks in stillness, in the spaces between thoughts. It's always there, waiting to be acknowledged and heard.
I spoke more about this in my Stillness Toolkit, especially in Video 6, where I touch on the importance of developing a relationship with this inner guide. Because while others can offer guidance, only you can walk your path. Only you can feel your truth.
Contemplating the Guru Within
So today, I invite you to contemplate. This is more than thinking—it’s dropping into presence, becoming still, and allowing wisdom to rise. Journaling can be a beautiful practice for this.
Consider the following questions as starting points:
Who have been the meaningful teachers in your life?
What moments or lessons from them still live inside you?
How do you access your own inner wisdom?
What does truth feel like to you—not just in your thoughts, but in your body and being?
How are you transforming the teachings you've received into something uniquely your own?
In yogic tradition, the path of Dharma is the soul’s unique purpose. It’s not about finding the “right” way, but discovering the true way—the one that aligns with your essence. And only your inner guru can truly guide you there.
From Knowledge to Wisdom
We live in a world full of beliefs, dogmas, and an overwhelming flood of information. The true challenge is not just absorbing knowledge, but transcending it—transforming it into embodied wisdom.
So how are you doing that? How are you taking the guidance you’ve received and turning it into your own truth? How are you living it, practicing it, allowing it to ripple out from you?
The Power of Devotion
One way I return to this alignment is through devotion. Not devotion in the religious or worshipful sense, but as a deep heart-commitment—like the love we have for a child, a pet, a cause, or a calling. When devotion is rooted in pure, divine love, it becomes a powerful force. It brings strength, clarity, and confidence. It helps us move forward on our true path, with gentleness and integrity.
It aligns us with what is beautiful, what is true, and what is loving.
A Space to Practice Together
I’m currently creating a space where we can come together in community—where we can begin to practice, explore, and embody these truths. If you feel called to join this unfolding journey, I would be honoured to have you with us.
Please visit my website: homeofblisswellness.com Sign up for the newsletter and you’ll be the first to receive details about what’s coming. This offering is close to my heart, and it will be the first time I share it in this way.
Until then, be kind to yourself. Honour your teachers. Honour the wisdom within you that continues to grow and guide you—moment by moment, step by step.
With love,
Thomas
