My story...
The language of sound
Some journeys begin with a clear destination. Mine began with a feeling — a deep knowing that music, sound, and healing through vibration were my path.
From the moment I placed my hands on the piano, heard music on the radio, and first held a flute, sound felt like an extension of my being — a language capable of expressing what words never could. Long before I understood it consciously, I knew that sound would shape my life.
At 17, that relationship with sound changed dramatically. During a lightning strike while I was on the telephone, my eardrum was damaged and later surgically repaired. Since then, I have lived with permanent tinnitus in my right ear. What could have remained simply a physical trauma slowly became something else — a teacher in deep listening.
Living with a constant internal tone refined my sensitivity to subtle vibration, resonance, and silence.
Over time, this heightened awareness would profoundly influence my work in sound healing and meditation.
From music to healing
I followed my calling academically and professionally, earning a degree in Music and Performing Arts from the University of Pretoria and later studying in France. I performed in orchestras, chamber ensembles, and solo recitals across Pretoria, Johannesburg, and Cape Town.
For more than 20 years, I also worked as a music educator, teaching children and adults. Through these years of teaching and performance, I began witnessing something powerful: when approached mindfully, sound has the ability to regulate the nervous system, open emotional pathways, and create space for calm and integration.
Music was no longer simply performance — it had become medicine.
This realization redirected my path toward sound healing, meditation, breathwork, Reiki energy healing, and the therapeutic use of vibration and stillness. At a time when formal training in sound therapy was still limited, I committed myself to deep study, experiential learning, and developing a grounded, integrative approach to healing.
Yoga, presence & integration
In 2022, I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (Yoga Alliance accredited), which allowed me to weave together yoga, meditation, mantra chanting, breathwork, and sound therapy into one cohesive healing practice.
My work also naturally expanded toward supporting children through mindfulness, movement, sound, and emotional awareness. Drawing on decades of educational experience, I later trained in Yoga for Children and Yoga Therapy for Special Needs.
Over time, these seemingly separate paths began to merge into one shared intention: to create spaces where people can slow down, reconnect, and return to themselves more fully.
The birth of Home of Bliss
From this evolution, Home of Bliss emerged — a sanctuary for sound healing, meditation, yoga, mindfulness, and holistic wellbeing in McGregor, South Africa.
Today, I offer both in-person and online sessions that integrate sound therapy, energy healing, breathwork, mantra medicine, yoga nidra, and guided meditation. Each session is intentionally designed to support nervous system regulation, emotional wellbeing, deep rest, and inner balance.
In 2025, my work expanded further through the creation of the Pilgrim of the Path Circle — an online membership offering guided sound journeys, reflective teachings, journaling practices, and spaces for ongoing inner work and integration.
Alongside me, my life partner Andries contributes therapeutic massage and personal growth facilitation, enriching the sanctuary with grounded embodiment and practical integration.
A grounded approach to healing
Over the years, I have come to understand that healing is not instantaneous — it is relational. It unfolds through patience, trust, presence, and attentive listening.
I do not promise quick fixes.
Instead, I offer a grounded and compassionate space where real transformation can take root gently and sustainably.
If you have found your way here, perhaps you are seeking not noise — but resonance. Not escape — but deeper connection.
I would be honored to walk this path with you.
With love, presence, and blessings,
Thomas (Depal Dorje)
